SocialLinks is a new iPhone app that scans your twitter feed for links that your friends are posting and presents you with a real time, curated feed of news and interesting articles.
You can preview the links on your phone and if you find something that is particularly interesting it is easy to send the link to Instapaper or Pinboard for more careful review at a later time. You can also, email it, share it on Facebook, open the tweet in the official Twitter app, open the link in safari, etc.
Your links are presented to you in a simple attractive “tweet stream meets RSS feed kind of way”. SocialLinks keeps track of links that have been posted multiple times and brings these to the top of the list. Unread links are shown above read ones and you can mark links as favorite, mark them read and archive them when you like.
If your stream has clutter such as check-ins and such you can add a filter to remove them.
Other apps like Flipboard and Tweetmag focus on gorgeous layout on iPad. I love these apps and use them all the time when I’m “magazine browsing” mode. When in “news reading” mode, their beautiful UI and dynamic layout can be distracting and confusing. In this case I prefer the simplicity and control of SocialLinks on iPhone.
I love Twitter and I love keeping up with my friends. Sometimes I’m too pressed for time to read my full tweet stream but still want to know what is going on. SocialLinks lets me quickly and easily see the news I care about.
Its an app that I find incredibly useful and really helps me keep up with whats new that I need to know about.
Its free and available in the app store now.
I hope you give it a try and let me know what you think.
Thanks.
